Jakes of Old Friends

Today I filled up the second cavity of my life. I generally don’t like dentists, and I haven’t been to dentist appointments more than three times in my life, but I liked Dr. Virk’s work on my tooth. I was acting like a scared baby and she numbed on side of my mouth so that I would not feel the drill and Waterlaser gun. Afterwards, I went to the Pizza shop I had to go in order to see some old friends.

The story continues from yesterday’s post:

The plan was to meet at Jakes of Sunnyvale, at 7:30 pm. 14 people have made it, two of which who left early, and two of which I did not know at all! Thank you for coming anyway. Few who intended to come, did not show up at all. I preserve their rights and I do not name them here. Even though we waited for them till 11 pm, no one even called to say that they are not coming so at least we wrap up earlier.

It was a good night. I met some old friends after 3 years. I wished if I could see more. I understand that it might not have been the perfect planning and timing but at least I made the phone calls, returning it is not a bad idea. We drank beer, ate pizza, and afterwards we went to a Hookah Lounge in 3rd Street in San Jose. I played backgammon against Sara and she insisted that the game is to win three hands. She won and was happy. I do not know happy of smoke or happy of winning the three hands. I won two hands not degrading myself in the game, but I bet if the game was a five-winning hand game, I would have had a great chance of winning, but here Sara, it was my new year’s gift to you.

As usual the night ended with kisses and hugs and everybody went home. Today’s thought of the day was how can I bring these people together next time.

A Day of Phone Calls

I woke up late during past few days. My sleep schedule has shifted by four hours and twenty minutes and 52 seconds. I better adjust it for school on coming Monday. I had a vision while being away from Los Angeles during this vacation period, and that was to bring all old friends of Persian Student Society together.

Three years ago before I transfer to UCLA, there was a united student organization at De Anza College, started by me and few other friends who got to know each other during the organizational meetings, called Persian Student Society (PSS). Not only among the officers, but among other members and fellows many friendships and relationships were formed. People moved on with their lives and many got forgotten. Three generation after my term, during an incident the reputation and two-year history of organizations’ efforts and cultural activities went under jeopardy. I shortly call it “When people play wrong politics!” As a result, the group was collapsed and its members moved to variety of Universities.

To appreciate those old good times, and moments that we had together, I decide to make 33 phone calls to people whom I kept their contacts. Many dramas has happened ever since which created distance among people, but I am hoping that at least many would break the ties and just show up for the sake of creating that old charming atmosphere . As of now I got in touch with 10 people. One of my good friends, Reza, did a favor of calling few others which I did not have the right phone numbers. Later today, Yasaman, one of the ex-presidents of the organization got a hold of one other old friend. I left messages for the rest of people.

Stay tuned as in my next post I will write about the outcome of this motion.

New Year and the Broken Pumpkin

First of all, have a happy and warm 2007. By warm I meant anytime during the year you should be feeling warm and melting. Why do I wish you to melt? I don’t. It is inevitable that global warming is causing the weather to go crazy. No matter where you live, you are used to a certain type of weather and temperature. Cool or warm, you will feel the difference, and at some point, you will be pissed. I live in Los Angeles. It is Winter and it should be cold but it seams that the parents of earth are having too much fun partying and getting drunk that they forgot to control the weather cast. One day you go out in the morning and it is freezing, so you take you jacket with you, and at noon it is so darn hot that you feel like taking of your shirt and pants and jump into a nice cool water swimming pool. That is when you don’t find yourself a pool and get pissed off and start to melt. Another day it might be so freezing that you run home to be in front of fireplace. Later you will find yourself sleep and melting inside a blanket next to the fireplace. So, either way you will melt.

Second of all, I would like to wish you a year full of success and happiness. To you, success might be getting a new job, graduating from school, wining some money in the stock market, changing a relationship, losing your mind (I know someone who loves to lose his mind, that is his way of success), or whatever; I am not going to write two pages and list every single thing I can think of. I need some sleep OK, and this is keeping me up enough. Happiness come from you too. I cannot make you happy, nor anyone else. So, if you are not happy I wish you that you will find a way to make yourself happy.

Lastly, be passionate. This is my favorite wish for everyone. I cannot live without passion. I meant all of us should be passionate about something, right? That is what helps you to move on. It actually directly links to happiness. So, I wish you a new year full of passion.

And the pumpkin, you may wonder, came from my brother’s neighbor, and was broken, and I regret that I found it late, otherwise there would a nice pumpkin pie on the table prepared by me.
